Bhopal: The excise department has once again sent the proposal for home delivery of liquor to the cabinet for approval. While this outbreak of Bhupesh Sarkar in Chhattisgarh was criticized by BJP. However, the Shivraj cabinet has not considered this policy. In the meeting held on Tuesday, the proposal to renew the license fee by 5% for the next 10 months has also been deferred.

Ministry sources said that online sales of foreign liquor have been proposed in the excise policy for the year 2020-21. The new policy was scheduled to go into effect from April 1, but the government has continued to increase the existing contracts by 5% license fees for two months due to the corona epidemic. There was also a proposal to increase liquor shops in this policy, but after its opposition the government came on the backfoot. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had said that a new liquor shop will not be opened in the state.

Excise sources say the proposed policy removed the point of opening new liquor shops, but is the online selling point of foreign liquor. Which has been sent to the cabinet for approval. It states that in the first phase, there will be online sale of foreign liquor in all the four big cities of the state. However, the Chief Minister has returned the entire proposal for reconsideration.

The system is applicable in 11 states

According to the proposal of the Commercial Department, online delivery of liquor is allowed in Haryana, Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bengal, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu with the objective of maintaining physical distance due to Corona epidemic. On the same lines, this system will be started in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior of the state. In this, the shopkeeper will get the order and delivery will be done by the online service provider.

Mobile app on the lines of Cg

The proposal also mentions creating a mobile app to operate the new system on the lines of Chhattisgarh. Through this, the shop operator will get an order. For this, after verification through the identity card, voter identity card etc. of the consumer will be registered on the app. A person under 21 years of age will not register. On the app, a list of liquor stocks and rates will be displayed in nearby shops from the consumer’s place of residence.

Liquor delivery permit will be obtained

According to the proposal, the delivery will get a permit for home delivery of alcohol. The department believes that this arrangement will not only increase consumption but will also ensure availability of legitimate liquor. Illegal liquor will stop selling and there will be less congestion at shops. Due to the availability of liquor at home, there will also be a decrease in accidents due to driving drunk.
