New Delhi: The first batch of 10,000 doses of 2-Doxy-D Glucose (2-DG), a Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) drug for the treatment of Corona patients, will be launched early next week. This information has been given by DRDO officials. Officials said that work is being done to speed up production for future use of the drug. This drug is made by a team of DRDO scientists.
It is believed that the drug may prove to be a game changer in the treatment of 2-DG corona. For severe corona patients, this drug is no less than a lifesaver. Regarding the side effects of 2DG, doctors tell us that the metabolism of normal cells (the process of converting food into energy) is completely different from that of infected cells. The amount of the drug is reduced to normal cells and does not harm them.
Effective on every strain of Kovid-19
According to DRDO scientists, 2DG is capable of fighting every strain of the corona. The mechanism of this drug changes the proteins of human cells instead of the proteins of the virus, so that the virus is not able to take shelter inside the cell. At the same time, the rest of the anti-viral drugs attack the proteins of the virus itself and when mutations occur in the virus, the medicines become largely ineffective. This makes the virus of any strain useless. Dr. Anant Narayan Bhatt and Dr. Sudhir Chandna of INMS, who have been the principal scientists of the clinical trial conducted by Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy Lab on 2DG, have seen that this drug is effective on many variants in Phase III trials.
